Size the lever before you pull it
Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot and region choice can each take a large share off compute spend — or lock you into the wrong thing for three years. CloudMonitor puts the options side by side for the instances you actually run, so the conversation with finance starts from numbers instead of guesses.
What you can compare
- Commitments. For every running EC2 instance, an estimate at roughly 28% off on a 1-year term and 46% off on a 3-year term; for RDS, roughly 30% and 50%.
- Spot. Hosts whose names suggest interruption-tolerant work — batch, worker, CI, build, dev, test, staging, queue, job — are flagged with an estimated Spot discount of about 68%.
- Regions. Any instance type priced across ten AWS regions, plus a region-arbitrage table that shows what each running instance would cost elsewhere.
- Storage. gp2 and gp3 per-GB pricing applied to your real volumes.
- Unit economics. Spend per resource for each service, which highlights services whose unit cost is out of line.
Know the limits of an estimate
Prices come from a bundled catalog of common EC2 instance types — US East on-demand Linux pricing with regional multipliers — and every figure is labelled as an estimate. Commitment estimates don’t yet subtract Reserved Instances or Savings Plans you already own, and Spot candidates are a naming heuristic, not a guarantee that a workload tolerates interruption. Confirm the final numbers in the AWS Pricing Calculator before you buy.
