01 What’s included

What-If Simulator, in detail.

Model cost and carbon before you change anything. Here is exactly what CloudMonitor does — and where its coverage stops today.

Migrate gp2 to gp3

Every gp2 volume repriced as gp3 at the same size.

Delete idle and unattached

Remove the resources CloudMonitor flags as idle or unattached and see what it frees up.

Right-size one step down

Every running EC2 instance moved one size down within its family.

Add capacity

Add 1 to 500 instances of a catalog type, priced in your most-used region.

Apply a Savings Plan

A 1-year Compute Savings Plan at a 28% discount on eligible compute.

Assumptions on screen

Each result lists the assumptions behind it and exports to CSV for your change request.

02 How it works

Three steps, no agents to install.

1

Pick a scenario

Five scenarios cover storage, clean-up, rightsizing, growth and commitments.

2

See the delta

Monthly and annual cost change plus the monthly kgCO₂e change.

3

Take it to review

Export the result and its assumptions with the change request.

Answer “what would it save?” before the change request

Every cost change starts with the same question from someone who has to approve it. The What-If Simulator answers it against your real AWS inventory, not a spreadsheet of assumptions, and shows both the money and the carbon side of the decision.

The five scenarios

  • Migrate every gp2 volume to gp3 at the same size — usually the safest saving in AWS.
  • Delete idle and unattached resources — everything the inventory currently flags.
  • Right-size one step down — every running EC2 instance moved one size smaller within its family, which is a quick way to size the prize before you look at utilization patterns one by one.
  • Add capacity — 1 to 500 instances of a catalog type, priced in your most-used region, to budget for growth.
  • Apply a 1-year Compute Savings Plan at a 28% discount on eligible compute.

Each result shows the monthly and annual cost change and the monthly change in estimated kgCO₂e, with the assumptions listed underneath and a CSV export for the change ticket.

Estimates, clearly labelled

Results use the same bundled price catalog as pricing analysis and the same model as the carbon estimates. They are designed to size a decision quickly; confirm the final figures with AWS before committing to a purchase.

03 FAQ

What-If Simulator
questions.

Something else? Talk to us — a person replies.

What scenarios can I model?

Five: migrate all gp2 volumes to gp3, delete idle and unattached resources, right-size every running EC2 instance one size down in its family, add 1–500 instances of a chosen type, and apply a 1-year Compute Savings Plan.

Does the simulator change anything in my account?

No. It only calculates. CloudMonitor is read-only and never modifies resources.

How accurate are the results?

They are estimates based on a bundled price catalog and your current inventory. They are meant to size a decision, not replace a final quote from AWS.

Which clouds does it support?

AWS today.
